March 20, 2009: The 2009 Megatransect has reached the 700 cut-off and is closed to registration. Get on the waiting list by leaving your name on the megawaitinglist@aol.com.
The 2009 Bald Eagle Mountain Megatransect will be held on Oct 3, 2009. The Megatransect is a challenging 24.9 mile endurance hike/trail run in central Pennsylvania. The course will take the entrants up and over Bald Eagle Mountain - a number of times. Total elevation gain is over 5,000 feet over an extraordinary course.
For 2009, we welcome new Megatransect Race Director, Dave Hunter. Since the Mega's inception, Dave and his team have been the driving force behind the many improvements and new challenges to our incredible course. Recently, a number of hardened trail running veterans were heard referring to the Mega as the "Super Bowl of trail events". Event founder, Jeff Stover, will still be involved as "Retiring Race Director" in this transition year. Our collective vision is to make the Bald Eagle Mountain Megatrasect the premier trail event on the east coast-if it has not already achieved that in six short years. Nevertheless, we will never stop making the event better and better.

| The Megatransect is designed to appeal to the hard-core trail runner, dedicated hiker or those reasonably fit persons out for a real challenge. You will be given 11.5 hours to complete the course. Runners' times will from 3.75 to 6.5 hours. Hikers are likely to take 6 to 9.5 hours. Those that do a bit of jogging in the easy sections should be somewhere in the middle. Although timed, the Megatransect should be considered more of a personal challenge rather than a race. |
| We thank our contributors and those companies donating merchandise. All entrants will be eligible for merchandise in a random drawing. Last year over 70% of the competitors received a prize.
